This redirect also collects all these domains under one umbrella. As a result, the search engine algorithm ranks all those links based on the domain authority from inbound links. 

Additionally, the permanent redirection ensures that whether visitors type ‘www’ or ‘https://’ in front of the domain name, they would still get to the correct address. 

Implementing 301 Redirect

Several factors must be taken into consideration before implementing a 301 Redirect. It is essential to set up the redirection before migrating content to the new website. This ensures that no traffic is lost during the migration process. Additionally, make sure that there are redirections from old internal links. Not doing so will lead to customers being hassled if they happen to click ‘not-directed links.’ 

301 vs. Other Types of Redirects

Aside from 301 Redirect, there are different types of redirects that are suitable for individual circumstances. Temporary maintenance is an example of a situation where implementing another form of redirect like 302 Redirect makes more sense. Because 301 is a permanent redirect, it may not be the best solution when the site undergoes temporary maintenance procedures. Another type of redirect is Meta Refreshes. When a visitor enters a link, and there appears a text similar to ‘ The site will open in 5 seconds. If not, click the link below.” This case is an example of Meta Refreshers, which again redirects visitors to another link. Therefore, people should be aware of various types of redirections to ensure they utilize the right strategy.
